Pontoon Bridge

After waiting ... Gen Burnside finially bridged the Rappahanck only to face a desitating defeat.
Union engineers assembled six pontoon bridges on the morning of December 11,1862.
They came under punishing fire from Confederate sharpshooters, primarily from the
Mississippi brigade of Brig. Gen. William Barksdale.
